The Dallas Cowboys offense was humming in the first half of Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On the first four drives, they had three touchdowns and a 60-yard field goal en route to a 24-6 halftime lead.
Going into the game, there was some relative cause for concern. Star pass rusher, Micah Parsons was listed on the injury report with an "illness" designation.
Micah would go on to play, and many were in hopes of a Michael Jordan "Flu Game" type performance from him.
Well, fans got a "Flu Game" performance, it just wasn't from Parsons (although he still made his presence known).
Head coach Mike McCarthy recently underwent surgery to remove his appendix as it was announced he was suffering from acute appendicitis Wednesday morning.
He underwent surgery and he was back coaching on the sideline for Sunday night's matchup.
So going into one of, if not the most important game of the Cowboys season so far, they were short-staffed; and it was their offensive playcaller who would miss time.
Normally this would be a challenge. Mike McCarthy would say: Challenge accepted.
The Cowboys knew the key to stopping the Eagles' defense was to focus on stopping their interior defensive line and they did just that. To negate the impact they can have specifically in the run game, the Cowboys ran a lot of "duo."
Duo, is a run concept where you focus on double-teaming the interior defensive line off the snap, then once the defender has been moved off of his mark one of the offensive linemen can climb to the next level to take the linebacker.
The Cowboys' offensive line was executing this concept to perfection early on. When you look back at it, the numbers weren't all that impressive, but they were crucial in keeping drives alive. All in all, the Cowboys went 6-for-8 on third down in the first half.
And of course other than one fumble in the second half, Dak Prescott continued to improve on his MVP campaign through the air as he completed 62% of his attempts for two touchdowns. In the process, he spread the ball around with five different players recording at least 37 yards.
All around this was one of the more impressive offensive showings in a half from the Cowboys in recent memory. It truly felt like they came out and treated it like it was their game to lose.
Mike McCarthy deserves a ton of praise. To miss time leading up to this big of a game, and have your offense come out and play like that, it's nothing short of impressive and should qualify as a "Flu Game" type of performance from him.
Mike McCarthy’s dedication to Cowboys can now never be questioned
He’s a real one.
