There has been plenty of finger-pointing going around since the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped a second consecutive game to a two-win team. The Steelers entered their home matchup against the New England Patriots as the clear favorite to pick up a win in the contest, but they ended up coming away with a 21-18 loss.
Some believe that head coach Mike Tomlin is at fault for the Steelers' recent woes, while others have shifted the blame to the lackluster play from the team’s wide receiver corps.
NFL insider Peter King does not believe that Tomlin or Pittsburgh’s wideout group are deserving of the majority of blame for the team’s lackadaisical play as of late. However, King sees much cause for concern with the production that Pittsburgh has received from the quarterback position.
"The quality of quarterbacking by the Steelers is putrid and that really is above all," King said during a recent appearance on "PFT Live."
"You can talk about individual players and Diontae Johnson loafing and [George] Pickens not coming through and or such and such on the defense. Yeah, you can do that. This is a quarterback issue for the Pittsburgh Steelers."
King added that he does not see that the Steelers, who hold the No. 6 seed in the AFC, will end up making the playoffs.
Whether it has been Kenny Pickett or Mitchell Trubisky, the Steelers have not received much quality play from out at quarterback. The Steelers rank in the bottom half of the NFL in both passing touchdowns (nine) and passer rating (79.4).
The Steelers currently sit in third place in the AFC North standings with a 7-6 record.
