Brock Purdy's latest superb showing in the San Francisco 49ers' win over the Seattle Seahawks was in part a demonstration of his prowess with the long ball.

Per Nick Wagoner of ESPN, Purdy was six of seven for 225 yards and two touchdowns on throws that traveled at least 15 yards in the air. According to NextGen Stats, he had a completion of over 20 air yards and two that traveled nearly 40 yards in the air.

However, head coach Kyle Shanahan was more impressed by a throw that traveled only two yards.

Finding the right answer

It came late in the third quarter on a 30-yard catch and run from Deebo Samuel that helped set up George Kittle's 44-yard touchdown that gave the Niners a 12-point lead in the fourth.

Shanahan provided his analysis of it when asked about the 49ers' ability to consistently create explosives. They had 12 explosive plays (a pass of 20 yards or a run of 10) against the Seahawks, racking up 527 yards of offense.

"We’ve got so many players who can get such big plays on little plays. We went for a big play trying to get George and BA down the middle, the two hook defenders were deep and the safety, it’s one of my favorite plays by Brock on the day because he just went to a checkdown, which was the right answer, Deebo was a five-yard check down and he got 30 on it."

Anything but one-dimensional

On the touchdown to Kittle, the tight end fought through a hold by safety Julian Love who was coming down aggressively to stop the run as the Niners instead ran play-action and Purdy hit Kittle on a throw 19 yards downfield.

"That happens on a lot of our stuff, and then the more they come up then you can kind of get those easy big plays," Shanahan added.

"The one to George was huge because they were honoring the run and the play before that you could see them blow the run up with George and Charlie [Woerner] over there in 22 personnel and they’re coming up aggressive and you could tell they did it again and that’s why they tried to grab George going by him but he was able to fight through the holding and get the touchdown.

"We’ve got a lot of explosive guys, but when you’re not just one-dimensional in that way, you hope it’s a matter of time just how it plays out."

The 49ers were anything but one-dimensional on Sunday, going for 354 yards through the air and 173 on the ground. A pair of turnovers meant the scoreline wasn't as spectacular as their 42-19 drubbing of the Philadelphia Eagles, but this offensive performance was another scarcely needed reminder of just how devastating the 49er offense is.
