The Philadelphia Eagles made a few roster moves ahead of their Christmas Day matchup against the New York Giants.
The Birds elevated defensive back Tristin McCollum and linebacker Brandon Smith from the practice squad to the active roster for game day.
Both moves make sense since the Eagles are dealing with injuries at the cornerback and linebacker positions.
Cornerback Darius Slay is out with a knee injury and Avonte Maddox needs at least another week to get acclimated.
McCollum adds extra depth to the secondary and special teams.
The second-year corner made his NFL debut for the Eagles in Week 4 against the Washington Commanders where he played 20 snaps. This week marks just McCollum's second time being elevated.
Linebackers Nicholas Morrow and Zach Cunningham are also dealing with injuries. Morrow was ruled out with a knee injury while Cunningham is questionable due to an abdomen injury.
Smith, a second-year linebacker, is on tap to make his debut for the Eagles against the Giants where he will rotate with Shaquille Leonard and Nolan Smith.
Smith was initially drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He played 12 games and made one start for the Panthers as a rookie, logging five tackles through 53 defensive snaps.
Rookie linebacker Ben VanSumeren, who has taken only special team snaps, is also expected to make his debut for the Eagles on defense.
Eagles’ Christmas wish won’t come true after all
A bummer the secondary.
