Jalen Hurts is a damn winner. Put some respect on his name. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback delivered one of the gutsiest drives of his career to pull out a win against the Tennessee Titans, and the conversation about whether Hurts can get it done in crunch moments should be over.

The drive that shut everybody up

With the game on the line, third-and-6 at their own 39, the Eagles feeling like they were on the brink of collapse, Hurts floated a 20-yard pass to wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks through a bit of traffic. Perfect throw. Then he hit DeVonta Smith for nine yards on the next play. Then on second-and-1 with about 40 seconds left, Hurts threw to DeVonta on the sideline for another gorgeous toe-tap catch. Smitty had about four of those in this game. He was fantastic.

The Eagles hurried up, got down to the 26-yard line. Hurts threw an incomplete pass. Then he scrambled for four yards on the next play, and you’re sitting there thinking, no timeouts, hurry up, move, move. Third-and-6, Hurts threw to DeVonta again, and Smith was pushed out at the three-yard line. Another beautiful pass, another beautiful catch.

And here’s the thing that makes it even sweeter. Not even a full quarter before that drive, Hurts tried to get it to DeVonta in the same part of the field and it was intercepted. So they went right back to it. They got revenge. They got down to the three-yard line, and on first-and-goal, Tennessee did what I think they should have done and brought the house at Hurts. He just stayed so poised, so composed, threw it over the middle, and wide receiver Darius Cooper was wide open. The catch of his life, as the broadcast said. He jumped up, grabbed it, and the Eagles somehow found a way to pull this game out.

Why? Because Jalen Hurts is a winner.

Stop with the disrespect

I don’t want to hear anything from anybody. Whether you’re a Jalen Hurts critic, a hater, whether you just don’t like the guy, whether you don’t like the Eagles, whether you do like the Eagles, I don’t care. Hurts just wins football games. It may not be the prettiest. It may not be the most structurally, fundamentally sound. But he wins football games, and he deserves so much credit for the way he stood in there despite scrambling on what felt like every single play and delivering the throws that needed to be made.

Did he have a couple bad interceptions? Yes. One of them wasn’t even his fault. But when the game was on the line, when Philadelphia needed a drive, when the pressure was at its absolute peak, Hurts delivered. That is what separates winners from everybody else. You can nitpick the box score, you can point to the ugly moments, but the final score is the only thing that matters, and Hurts made sure the Eagles came out on top.

This is the same quarterback who has taken this team to two Super Bowls before his 28th birthday. The same guy who has dealt with a different offensive coordinator seemingly every year and still finds ways to win. The same guy who people love to doubt and criticize and tear apart on national television, and yet he keeps proving them wrong. So the next time somebody wants to come out and question whether Jalen Hurts is the guy in Philadelphia, just point them to this drive against Tennessee. Point them to the poise under pressure, the composure with no timeouts and the game slipping away, the willingness to go right back to the same area of the field where he got picked off and make the play anyway.

Jalen Hurts is a winner. Simple as that.
