Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase may end up missing games in the coming weeks after all.
Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Chase is expected to miss this week's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after having an MRI on his separated shoulder, and could miss more time as well.
This is the nearly the opposite of what Rapoport's initial report on Sunday stated. Chase was said to be "day-to-day" with an AC joint sprain, and head coach Zac Taylor relayed the same in describing Chase's injury as well.
Chase's MRI taken Monday has clearly changed the situation.
The Bengals had already placed both DJ Reader and DJ Ivey on the Reserve/Injured list Monday afternoon. The idea of losing Chase for one week or more while they've got a 35% chance at making the postseason is anything but comforting. They'll face the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns in the final two weeks, two teams who are currently 9-5 on the year.
On Sunday, the Bengals played over half the final quarter and all of overtime without Chase in a 27-24 comeback victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The offense managed to get the job done when it counted. Now it's looking like they'll have to do it again this weekend on the road against a desperate Pittsburgh Steelers team.
If Chase isn't expected to play this Saturday, it's unlikely he'll practice at all this week. He'll be the main player to watch for when the team walks out to practice Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
