The Philadelphia Eagles are officially benching defensive coordinator Sean Desai for senior assistant Matt Patricia.

Following the Eagles' 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, head coach Nick Sirianni announced that Patricia would remain in charge of the defense.

"I made the decision,” Sirianni said in his post-game presser. “I did what I thought I needed to do in the best interest of the football team. We made some adjustments there. I didn’t feel like we were playing and coaching well enough on defense, so I made an adjustment. It was my decision and that’s what I did.”

While Desai is no longer calling plays for the Eagles' defense from the sideline, he will continue to help out from the booth.

“All the final decisions are made by Matt right now,” Sirianni said. “As disappointed as Sean was, I think he handled himself like a true pro. Sean is still helpful to this football team because he has a bright mind and he can help and as I listened in on defense today they were communicating back and forth very similar to the way they communicated with the roles reversed.”

The Eagles' defense kicked off Monday night looking strong before crumbling on the most crucial moment of the game, allowing Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock to throw for 92 yards and a game-stealing touchdown during his final drive with less the two minutes left on the clock.

Patricia will get a chance to redeem himself against the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals and Giants once again.
