Philadelphia Eagles' long-time defensive end Brandon Graham thinks head coach Nick Sirianni may have failed to block out the noise when he decided to strip defensive coordinator Sean Desai of his duties and handed the keys to the defense over to Matt Patricia.
Graham got honest with the media when addressing the play-calling switch following the Eagles' 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.
“With Desai, things weren’t going right, especially the last two games It’s media-driven out here, man," Graham said. "It had to be a change because everybody calling for his head.”“It’s all media-driven when we losing. They just tried to do something to shake it up. But I ain’t worried at all. I don’t think anybody panicking, but I just know it’s always a change when people talking bad about the team.”
With Patricia in charge, Philly's defense showed noticeable improvement in the first half before falling apart at the end, allowing Seahawks' backup quarterback Drew Lock to throw for 92 yards and a game-stealing touchdown on his last drive.
The final outcome of the game now has the media and many others questioning whether or not the change-up was even worth it.
But regardless of what the critics have to say, there's no going back now.
“All the final decisions are made by Matt right now,” Sirianni said after Monday's game. “As disappointed as Sean was, I think he handled himself like a true pro. Sean is still helpful to this football team because he has a bright mind and he can help and as I listened in on defense today they were communicating back and forth very similar to the way they communicated with the roles reversed.”
The Eagles return to action next Monday against the New York Giants where Sirianni and his not-so-new and improved defense will look to prove doubters wrong.
