It's been a tough season for Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead.  The veteran lineman has been dealing with significant injuries since the preseason and has only been able to suit up for seven games this season.

For some reason, some Dolphins fans have apparently felt the need to chirp at Armstead for something largely outside of his control.  And it seems that the veteran has had enough of the hate.

Armstead put up a cryptic post on Instagram on Tuesday which appeared to be a direct shot at fans who have been criticizing his absence.

It's hard to get more direct than to tell people to shut the (bleep) up.  And it's understandable where that frustration comes from.  NFL injuries are far more about freak bad luck than conditioning or anything within a player's control.  If it was more within their control, you'd see a lot fewer injuries.  Alas, there is no magic trick.

Unfortunately, Armstead has been a player who has simply struggled with staying on the field over his career.  In his 11 years in the league, he has yet to play every regular season game in any given season.  He's played in 14 or more games just three times in 11 years (2014, 2019, 2020) and has played in 10 or less games five times in his career.

Armstead was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft.  He spent his first nine seasons in New Orleans where he earned Pro Bowl honors three times.  He signed a 5-year, $75 million contract in March 2022 with the Dolphins.  He missed four regular season games last season as well as seven games this season with knee and ankle injuries.

Kendall Lamm has performed well in his absence this year.  However, when Armstead is physically able to perform at his normal level, he's been very good. He's earned a solid 79.9 Pro Football Focus grade, second among Miami offensive linemen only to center Connor Williams.

The Dolphins need a capable Armstead down the stretch.  There's little doubt that he wants to be out there.  Fans just need to have the patience for him to get right physically in order to be at his best.
