Mike Borgonzi isn't the only Kansas City Chiefs front office executive getting attention during the upcoming hiring cycle

A source has confirmed to A to Z Sports that the Carolina Panthers have requested an interview with Chiefs VP of Football Ops Brandt Tilis for their general manager vacancy. Tilis is in the midst of his 14th season with the Chiefs' franchise and his third consecutive season as VP of Football Ops.

Tilis is well-regarded around the NFL for his skills in managing the team's salary cap. He started his career in 2010 as a Salary Cap/Contract Analyst with Kansas City and has since worked his way up to a prominent role in the organization. He served as the team's Director of Salary Cap/Football Ops Analytics from 2014-2016 and the team's Director of Football Administration from 2017-2020 before attaining his current role.

This isn't the first time that Carolina has interviewed Tilis for their GM job. Tilis was a candidate back in 2021, alongside now-Bears GM Ryan Poles. Neither candidate earned the job as the Panthers opted to hire now-former GM Scott Fitterer. It seems that the organization now recognizes it made an error in 2021. They could seek to rectify what appears to be a costly mistake.

On the flip side of things, losing Tilis would be a big hit for the Chiefs' organization. He works very closely with GM Brett Veach on all aspects related to contracts. He's often involved in negotiations and coming up with creative ways to handle the salary cap in Kansas City. He was instrumental in Patrick Mahomes' record-breaking contract in 2020, and the adjustment made to it ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
