Remember last week when Keisean Nixon was forgotten by Pro Bowl voters? Well, at least NFL players got it right. On Wednesday, the NFL Players Association released their 2023 team, and the Green Bay Packers kickoff returner has made the list.
This selection has two returners specialists: Nixon is the kickoff one, and Los Angeles Charger' Derius Davis was selected as the punt returner. Curiously enough, New Orleans Saints' returner Rashid Shaheed, who made the Pro Bowl, was not selected for this one.
This is still not the official All-Pro award, which will be released by Associated Press later this year. It's a new award created last season by the NFLPA.
Keisean Nixon was the only Packers player selected this year.
Check out the NFLPA award rules:
- Only active NFL players were eligible to vote, and each player could only vote once.
- Players could not vote for themselves or for their teammates.
- If a player missed five or more games as of Week 15 of the season, they were ineligible for a spot on the team.
- Players voted for the position group they play in and line up against on the field. For example, centers could vote for: the best center, the best nose tackle, the best interior defensive lineman and the best off-ball linebacker in the league.
For the special teams (or “core teamers”) category, various player leaders from each locker room nominated their two top players for the ballot.
