The San Francisco 49ers are widely considered to have the best cast of offensive skill players in the NFL, and their status as the gold standard in the league was enshrined in the history books in Sunday's win over the Washington Commanders.

San Francisco cruised to a 27-10 victory that, thanks to the Arizona Cardinals' shock win over the Philadelphia Eagles, secured the one seed in the NFC for the 49ers, who can now look forward to a first-round bye and homefield advantage in the playoffs.

Tight end George Kittle had 29 yards receiving in the game, an unspectacular tally, but one that took him to a milestone that allowed the 49ers to achieve a league first.

Kittle went past 1,000 yards receiving for the season. He now has 1,020 to his name and 1,022 from scrimmage.

The four-time Pro Bowler reaching that milestone saw the 49ers become the first team in NFL history to have a running back (Christian McCaffrey), two wide receivers (Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel) and a tight end surpass 1,000 yards from scrimmage in the same season.

McCaffrey has 2,023 scrimmage yards while Aiyuk is on 1,317 and Samuel 1,085.

With quarterback Brock Purdy setting a new single-season franchise record for passing yardage (4,280), the 49ers are the fourth team in NFL history with a 4,000-yard passer and four players each with 1,000 or more scrimmage yards in a season, joining the 2004 Indianapolis Colts, 1995 Atlanta Falcons and 1990 Houston Oilers.

McCaffrey suffered a groin injury that is not believed to be serious against the Commanders and will almost certainly be rested for the 49ers' now meaningless Week 18 game with the Rams.

There's a strong chance that Purdy and the rest of San Francisco's star skill-position quartet will be held out, with the Niners' focus now firmly on ensuring an historic regular season does not go to waste.
