The Miami Dolphins face a season-defining matchup on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills where the winner takes home the AFC East crown. And in Buffalo's case – a loss could keep them out of the playoffs.
The Dolphins are going to need all hands on deck, as the Bills are winners of their last four games and are definitely playing some of the best football they've played all year. Let's not forget the 48-20 beatdown Buffalo handed Miami back in Week 4, either.
So, it's easy to see why the latest news regarding stars Jaylen Waddle and Raheem Mostert is as disappointing as it is: Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, neither player is expected to play on Sunday night. Both players turned in limited practice sessions on Friday, but they just aren't where they need to be in order to play.
The bright side of the situation is…
Sure, the Dolphins were without both players last week against the Baltimore Ravens and we saw how that turned out. Miami's 19-points were the third-lowest total they scored all season long. It could've been their lowest output of the year, as well, if it weren't for a garbage time touchdown in the middle of the fourth quarter.
The Ravens defense is arguably tops in the league, however. And, now, the 'Phins have had two whole weeks, basically, to come up with a game plan that doesn't require/isn't based around Mostert's and Waddle's abilities.
The Bills have a pretty decent defense, but it's nothing like what the Ravens have. The extra time will also help Mike McDaniel and co. figure things out, but make no mistake – being without both players will certainly affect the outcome of this matchup and it could easily be an outcome that is not in Miami's favor.
