The next time the Cincinnati Bengals take the field, they will not get the privilege of facing one of the NFL's best players.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will miss the Niners' next two games, including the Week 8 matchup against the Bengals, with a "hairline fracture in his shoulder."
Samuel, an All-Pro and Pro Bowl player two seasons ago, remains one of the best playmakers in the league. He's assumed the role of WR2 in the 49ers' offense this season behind Brandon Aiyuk, but his production has still be solid in five full games. He's recorded 302 yards and a touchdown on 20 receptions, forcing 10 missed tackles in the process.
Samuel suffered his shoulder injury early in San Francisco's loss Week 6 to the Cleveland Browns. The 49ers' offense couldn't overcome the Browns' No. 1 defense and lost by a missed field goal in the final seconds.
With or without Samuel, the 49ers are a potent offense to limit, and the Bengals' hands will still be full with Aiyuk, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey if the latter also plays. McCaffrey is questionable for this week's game against the Minnesota Vikings with an oblique injury he also suffered against the Browns.
That said, the Bengals' defense has been spotty at best in terms of tackling and giving up explosive plays. Game-planning for the 49ers' offense will be a bit easier without worrying about Samuel.
Should the Bengals get Samaje Perine back via trade?
Perine’s return makes sense, but there’s a barrier in the way.
