If you watched Sunday's huge win over the Rams, then you know how big of an impact George Pickens had for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But you also probably saw some mental errors from Pickens that incurred some serious loss of yardage via penalties.

Pickens addressed the latter after the game:

"Just Keep Fighting Hard"

“A game like this showed me like they’re kind of looking for me to try to mess up," Picken stood the media regarding his personal fouls. "Guys are antagonizing me more. Today is the first day I saw anything like that. Guys really just trying to get me outta the game or get under my skin deliberately. All I can really say is just keep fighting hard.”

This was the first of two personal fouls by Pickens, with the second one being a taunting call. This block was viewed as a bit more egregious however, since its the definition of the crackback block that the NFL has now banned.

So I appreciate the demeanor and competitive nature, but that is simply a play where Pickens has to restrain himself, something Coach T also addressed after the game:

"Obviously, we gotta clean up some things from a management of our emotions," Coach Tomlin told the media."But I would much rather say whoa, than sic em. We got some guys that are competitors. They just gotta compete in the appropriate and mature and professional way. We'll use it as a learning experience. It's good to learn while sitting at 4-2 as opposed to 3-3."

And thats the bottom line. You can tame the beast, but if the fire isn't innate within the competitor, good luck ever finding it. So restraint, yes, but dialing back, no way, no how.
