The Carolina Panthers are looking to shake things up out of the Week 7 bye.
It was reported shortly after the Week 6 loss to the Miami Dolphins that Frank Reich would be handing the play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, a branch from the LA Rams Sean McVay coaching tree.
Reich said once the decision was made public, it was his choice and not the team's ownership. But recently, team owner David Tepper offered his perspective on the shake-up.
"The Panthers are on a bye, but when they return, offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will be handling play-calling duties," Diana Russini of The Athletic wrote. "I recently asked Panthers owner David Tepper about the decision to take the play calling away from coach Frank Reich, and he said it’s a simple idea: 'Whatever can put us in a good position to win.'”
With the change in who is calling the plays, there is a renewed sense of optimism for the team coming out of its break. That isn't to say the Panthers could make a playoff push. Those goals should be long gone by now. But there is still something redeemable left in the season — mainly, the progression of the Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young.
Tepper wants to win. To get there, however, starts with patience. Time will tell if he has that, too.
