The Cleveland Browns are making a roster move following the Week 6 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
After stepping in for injured left guard Joel Bitonio, backup offensive lineman Michael Dunn is heading to the injured reserve. Dunn will have to stay there for at least four games and will be able to return Nov. 19 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It is a calf injury that Dunn is dealing with. He actually played through the injury on Sunday and gutted it out to not miss a single snap.
"He was unbelievable," Stefanski said on Monday. "I mean, the way he fought through his injury, he wouldn't come out of the game, and you can see it on tape that he was fighting and just in the run game and in the passing game. He's a guy that we trust so much. He's played well when we put him in there. He is an awesome teammate, just an all-around good person. We're really pleased that he's a member of the Browns."
Dunn had appeared in four games this season, the one start and three games on special teams. There is no looking over the fact that Dunn is the top backup offensive lineman on the roster right now. He has the versatility to move around to different positions, which benefits the Browns.
Over the previous three years combined, Dunn appeared in 28 games with the Browns.
With the injury, the Browns very well could sign another offensive lineman. Other than Dunn they have tackle James Hudson, center Nick Harris, and rookie center Luke Wypler. Harris has played a bit of center in the past but has struggled. Wypler has some potential at guard but he’s a bit away from being out there.
Don’t be surprised if the Browns add another offensive lineman, they should. The trade deadline is approaching on Halloween, or they can opt to sign a free agent.
