For weeks, it was believed the Carolina Panthers would make a move for a starting-level wide receiver.

Those reports were then linked to the Denver Broncos and Jerry Jeudy. However, according to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Panthers may be out of the wide receiver market entirely.

"Wide receiver is a buzz-worthy position entering the deadline," Fowler writes. "People I've talked to believe the Colts, Packers, Panthers and Chiefs have at least monitored the receiver market in recent weeks, though Carolina, sitting at 0-6, might be out, and the Chiefs got their man in Hardman."

After the developments of recent weeks, it never made sense for the Panthers to trade for a wide receiver.

The team was on a losing skid. And to net a starting-level pass catcher would mean giving up future draft capital, which the Panthers must hold on to if it wants to continue building in the right direction.

Trading for skill position players always looks flashier, but teams are built from the inside out.

Carolina getting out of the wide receiver market may be a blessing in disguise. It could allow the team to focus on building a roster to compete for years to come as opposed to the win-now boom and bust cycle the team has ridden for the last five seasons.
