The New York Giants won't have Daniel Jones when the team faces off against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football, but they could see Saquon Barkley return to the playing field.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants are "optimistic" and "hopeful" that Barkley will play against Buffalo. As for tight end Darren Waller – he's expected to play after he missed Wednesday's practice with a groin injury. He was listed as a limited participant on Thursday and Friday before finishing the week with a questionable tag.

There's no reason to rush Barkley back

The Giants need to be smart with Barkley. Yes, he's a dynamic playmaker who can change a game on his own, but at the same time, it's still only Week 6 and Sunday's night contest in an AFC tilt. Yes, it'd be great to get a win and break out of the funk the Giants are currently in, but if there's a game New York "can afford" to lose, it's this one.

Week 7's matchup against the Washington Commanders will play a much bigger role down the line when it comes to potential playoff seeding. If the Giants have any doubt/concerns for this week, then it'd be smarter to wait until next week. Especially if there's a chance Jones returns.

As for Barkley, himself: It wouldn't be a surprise if he pushes for playing time. He doesn't want to aggravate the injury, however, he's dealt with numerous injury issues over the course of his career and he's in a contract year. We saw how hard it was just for him to get a desired amount via the franchise tag – just imagine how hard it would be to get a respectable deal coming off another year mired by injury and low numbers?
