The Texas A&M Aggies suffered their first loss of the season this past Saturday, falling 26-20 to the Alabama Crimson Tide in College Station.
Texas A&M will travel to Knoxville this upcoming weekend to take on the Tennessee Vols in the first meeting between the two programs since the 2020 COVID-shortened season (a game the Volunteers lost 34-13 in Knoxville).
Aggies wide receiver Ainias Smith spoke to reporters on Saturday night after Texas A&M's loss to Alabama and he said that he and his teammates need to be "angry" after losing to the Crimson Tide.
"We have to learn from this game," said Smith. "All the negative, all the positive. And bring everything together — come together as one. Don't divide. Stay together as a team. And we just need to build off of this game and go in (to the next game) almost angry. Come back for vengeance."
Smith's comments sound a lot like the comments that came from Tennessee's players after the Vols' loss to the Florida Gators earlier this season.
The Vols and Aggies each have one conference loss this season. And each team is still hoping to win the SEC. That makes Saturday's showdown on Rocky Top a must-win game for both programs. A loss will essentially end the hopes of winning the SEC for one of these two teams on Saturday evening.
Tennessee and Texas A&M kick off at 3:30 PM ET on CBS on Saturday. Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson will be on the call for what will be one of the Vols' final games on the famous SEC on CBS broadcast (ESPN will take over those rights in 2024).
