Week 5 wasn't kind to the Carolina Panthers.

Though the Panthers dropped to 0-5 on the season after a 42-24 loss to the Detroit Lions, Frank Reich, the Panthers' head coach, continues to reject the notion of a rebuild.

Reich continues to believe the best version of the Panthers is just around the corner as long as the team keeps building. If only his optimism wasn't preventing him from seeing what everyone else can: This team isn't a good football team, and it surely isn't close to being a good one. So, with another week in the books, let's take a look at where the Panthers stack up among their peers in various NFL Power Rankings.

First up is ESPN. Last week, the Panthers were one spot from the bottom. Week 5's result pushed Carolina down to the bottom of the barrel. The Panthers are ranked No. 32 after being at the 31st spot after Week 4. Here is what David Newton had to say about the current state of the Panthers:

"[Miles] Sanders was signed during the offseason to be the every-down back and a dual-threat player. He's been anything but. Sunday's loss at Detroit was a sign his role is being diminished after he had one less snap than backup Chuba Hubbard. In five games, Sanders has only 191 yards rushing and is averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry. He has only 15 catches for 81 yards. He's definitely trending downward."

CBS Sports wasn't any kinder to the Panthers. They ranked the Panthers as the No. 32 team in the league, with some harsh words for the team's rookie quarterback, who has struggled through the first five weeks of the season.

"So much for the idea that Bryce Young would make this team a contender. They are far from."

It was the bottom of the barrel for the Panthers in The Athletic's Power Rankings. Their analysis focused on Bryce Young's struggles — showing how much of the season was constructed with the idea Young was a consistent and competent quarterback. That hasn't proven to be the case, and other people are taking notice.

"It’s not fair to be worried about Bryce Young’s long-term future, but here we are. Young is last among qualifying quarterbacks in yards per attempt (5.2) and has almost as many interceptions (four) as touchdowns (five). His passer rating (77) ranks 29th in the league, and the Panthers look headed for the worst record in the NFL. The problem is they sent next year’s first-round pick to Chicago as part of the trade that allowed them to draft Young."

The overwhelming consensus is that the Panthers are the worst team in the NFL. It comes as no surprise. Reich's team remains the only winless team in the league. And after its Week 5 performance, that doesn't look like it is changing any time soon.
