Philadelphia Eagles rookie Jalen Carter has played just five NFL games and is already one of the best defenders in the league.

Carter currently has 3 1/2 sacks and is tied with 10-year NFL veteran Aaron Donald for the most pressures amongst defensive tackles with 23.

While the Georgia product has played well above and beyond his expectations, head coach Nick Sirianni believes the young DT still has a lot to prove.

"He has to keep proving it over and over and over again," Sirrianni said on Monday following Carter's two-sack performance against the Los Angeles Rams. "Because if you want to be considered in the top part of this league as a football player, it’s about consistency and it’s about doing it year-in and year-out. So, he’s had a good start. He has to continue to put the work in. We know he has the talent."

What's even more impressive is that up until Week 5's matchup, Carter had been playing less than 50 percent of snaps but has still managed to lead the defense in sacks and is second to linebacker Nicholas Morrow in tackles for loss with four.

Still, Sirianni isn't going to jump the gun on Carter.

"We won’t put him in Canton yet," Sirianni said. "He’s got to just keep going each and every day and getting better, and it’s about consistency. He’s got the ability to do it. He’s just got to be consistent with it, and that’s by working hard and growing each day."

The Eagles take on the New York Jets in Week 6, which will be another perfect opportunity for Carter to prove himself.
