Predicting the Michigan Wolverines' Offense Two Deep Depth Chart amid fall camp for 2024 college football season

It's going to be impossible for Michigan to follow up the 2023 National Championship with anything quite as special, but the team still has plenty of pieces in place for a great season. The defense is absolutely stacked with perhaps three (or more) first round picks on it. That won't be the issue. The offense is where Michigan is going to have the most to prove after losing a first round quarterback in J.J. McCarthy.
It's time to predict the two deep depth chart as the 2024 season is just a few short weeks away to see which playmakers are going to be stepping up for the Wolverines and new head coach Sherrone Moore this year.
2024 Michigan Two Deep on Offense
Quarterback
- Alex Orji
- Jack Tuttle OR Davis Warren
Despite all the noise surrounding the quarterback decision for Michigan this season there's a pretty obvious and easy choice to make. Alex Orji got the "QB1" treatment at the spring game, opening things up with a quick and dominant touchdown drive then sat out the vast majority of the rest of the day. He was the dynamic dual threat the Wolverines leaned on in some key moments a year ago. And he brings the best mix of physical traits in the entire room.
Jack Tuttle might have a little more experience since he's 25, but it's not exactly good experience. Davis Warren has a great story, having overcome a battle with leukemia, and looked strong this spring. Warren could certainly earn the primary backup role. If Michigan wants any shot at making the College Football Playoff Orji will be their guy.
Michigan Wolverines and Sherrone Moore need to quit messing around and make the right decision at quarterback
The Wolverines’ stacked five QB room has a clear leader
Running Back
- Donovan Edwards
- Kalel Mullings
Michigan fans are still probably dreaming of Donovan Edwards' two explosive touchdown runs against Washington in the national championship. After struggling for much of the season as he recovered from off-season patellar tendon surgery Edwards regained his burst and speed at just the right time.
Edwards should be ready to look like the 2022 version of the running back that posted nearly 1200 yards from scrimmage, averaging nearly eight yards per touch. Michigan fans should fully expect a Blake Corum kind of workload well over 250 touches for Edwards. Behind him Kalel Mullings should play the strong second option with redshirt freshman Benjamin Hall seeing some touches against weaker opponents.
Wide Receiver
X – Fredrick Moore
X – Peyton O'Leary
Y – Semaj Morgan
Y – I'Marion Stewart
Z – Tyler Morris
Z- C.J. Charleston
Michigan sent both Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson to the NFL this spring so some new wide receivers are going to have to step up. Tyler Morris should plug in smoothly to the Roman Wilson role as he boasts the speed and balanced route running skills to do it. Semaj Morgan is going to likely be asked to do much more than play the "gadget" receiver role this year. Every other wide receiver is likely an afterthought in the target totem pole, frankly. Fredrick Moore may open the year as the starting X, but that third receiver role is far from set in stone.
Michigan Wolverines need key receivers to step up at fall camp going into 2024 college football season
Who steps up at wide receiver for Michigan this year?
Tight End
- Colston Loveland
- Max Bredeson OR Marlin Klein
Colston Loveland might be a first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He ranks first among all returning power conference tight ends in receiving yards, yards per route run, and is frankly slated to extend his lead against the field in 2024 as the de facto WR1 for Michigan. Loveland might be the most important player on the entire Wolverines offense, if not in all of the Big Ten this year.
Max Bredeson likely slated for the do-it-all primary blocking tight end role that AJ Barner filled a year ago most likely. However, if Marlin Klein continues to show well in camp he may step into the second tight end role by midseason. Klein is widely perceived to be a higher upside "next great Michigan tight end" type by many close to the team.
Offensive Line
LT – Myles Hinton
LT – Jeffrey Persi
LG – Josh Priebe
LG – Dominick Giudice
C – Greg Crippen
C – Raheem Anderson
RG – Giovanni El-Hadi
RG – Evan Link
RT – Andrew Gentry
RT – Tristan Bounds
There's been plenty of buzz about the quarterback situation this offseason, but the more important aspect of offensive cohesion is going to come down to the offensive line. Michigan will be replacing all five starting offensive lineman from a year ago, so we may see some changes even into the season.
However, right now Myles Hinton and Northwestern transfer Josh Priebe look pretty set on the left side of the line. Greg Crippen saw nearly 100 snaps at center a year ago, so he's certainly got the leg up there, but if he struggles Raheem Anderson could dethrone him. Giovanni El-Hadi likely has the other guard spot opposite Priebe with Jeffrey Persi, Andrew Gentry, and Tristan Bounds quite likely still battling for the last offensive tackle spot.
