Broncos QB Bo Nix is already showcasing a physical trait at OTAs that he'll likely use a ton as a rookie

The Denver Broncos are bringing a rookie quarterback into a situation that really could be much better for a rookie. Last season, the team was much better than the year before, but a lot of that is solely because Sean Payton is a much better coach than Nathaniel Hackett, and it's pretty hard to be worse than they were in 2022.

However, with some of the strategic moves they have made this offseason, this team is in need of a clear direction. They are in a rebuilding phase, no doubt, but they have been in this process since 2016. They are striving to reach the same level as last year as the initial step in their journey back to the playoffs, with Bo Nix leading the way.

There is considerable faith in Nix, and rightfully so. However, I wouldn't bet on him having a breakout superstar season. This is not to say that Nix will underperform, as his potential is yet to be fully realized. But it's unlikely that he will dominate the league in his first year, largely due to the team's current circumstances.

The Broncos don't possess the most formidable weapons in the league, let alone the division, and we still need to ascertain what will happen with Courtland Sutton. The offensive line didn't perform as well last season as we had anticipated. Yes, it was an improvement from the previous year, but it still fell short of being exceptional.

Last season, the Broncos allowed the fifth-most sacks at 52, but a large amount of those can be attributed to Russell Wilson running out of the pocket when he didn't need to. But here's the deal: Bo Nix could do the same thing.

He's a rookie, and your pocket awareness isn't the best when you're a rookie. So, Nix's offensive line will be bad, and he's also a rookie. So, we could see a lot of throwing off of his back foot. Luckily, he's been practicing it a lot and looks pretty darn good at it, too.

This week at OTAs, we saw the Broncos work with him on throwing off his back foot, and he threw a dime of a touchdown to Devaughn Vele. There is a chance we could see him do that quite a bit in 2024.
