The Tennessee Vols had a significant amount of high school talent on campus this past weekend for their 865 Live event.
Five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr, five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, four-star edge rusher Jared Smith, and four-star safety Lagonza Hayward were among the elite recruits in Knoxville this past weekend.
Several current Tennessee commits, including five-star quarterback George MacIntyre, were also on campus for the Vols' big recruiting weekend.
MacIntyre spoke to On3 about the big weekend and he suggested that it was a "warm-up" for the upcoming June 13-16 weekend, which the Vols commit expects to be the biggest recruiting weekend of the Josh Heupel era.
The Tennessee native also pointed out that the Vols are expecting some "good news" that weekend.
“865 live was filled with positive energy and it was huge to get a lot of recruits on campus just two weeks before June 13-16,” said MacIntyre. “I feel like it was a warmup for the biggest recruiting weekend in the Coach Heupel era where we are expecting good news from a couple guys.”
Sanders, Ffrench, and Smith will return for official visits on the weekend of June 13-16.
2025 five-star edge rusher Isaiah Gibson will also be Knoxville that weekend (Gibson canceled a visit to Florida so he can be at Tennessee).
MacIntyre, of course, will also be back at Tennessee for the Vols' big recruiting weekend in June. The elite five-star quarterback has been extremely proactive in helping the Vols' coaching staff recruit top talent, coming to Knoxville often when elite recruits are in town for visits.
Recruiting weekends like the one the Vols have set for June 13-16 can change the trajectory of a program. If Tennessee can use that weekend to put the finishing touches on a potential top five recruiting class, it could set the program up for successful seasons for years to come.
It's certainly an exciting time for Tennessee fans.
