During the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 58, Jauan Jennings looked set to become a very unlikely MVP with the San Francisco 49ers leading the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jennings backed into the endzone with 11:22 remaining in regulation to give the 49ers a 16-13 lead, having thrown to Christian McCaffrey for San Francisco's opening score in the second quarter.

His hopes of his contribution being the decisive one were dashed as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs broke San Francisco hearts in an overtime thriller.

After ending a brief contract impasse on Wednesday and signing a new two-year deal to keep him with the 49ers through the 2025 season, Jennings quickly turned his attention to finishing the job he had them so close to completing in February.

In a video posted to the 49ers' social media channels, Jennings said after signing his contract: "It's a big moment for me and my family and for this team, too. Can't wait to bring one home next year."

Jennings may not be as important to the 49ers as fellow receiver Brandon Aiyuk, whom San Francisco is hoping to sign to a long-term extension.

However, having consistently come through in the biggest moments in the last three seasons and thrived as a run blocker, Jennings figures to continue to have a critical role to play as San Francisco looks to finally capture the sixth Lombardi Trophy that, thanks to Kansas City, has continued to elude the 49ers.
