An underrated 2025 Tennessee Vols commit picked up an impressive honor over the weekend.
Four-star defensive lineman Ethan Utley, a Vols commit since late March, was named the defensive line MVP of the Rivals Camp Series in Indianapolis.
From Rivals.com: An impressive aspect of his day was the amount of reps Utley stepped up for, constantly testing out different offensive lineman in rotation. The Tennessee commit put together enough of a complete day to take home the Defensive Line MVP award.
Utley, 6-foot-4/265 lbs from Nashville, TN (Ensworth), is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 21 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 3 player in the state of Tennessee.
Despite Utley's status as a four-star recruit, he might actually be underrated. The talented recruit has the potential to be a game-changing defensive lineman for the Vols (the fact that he'll be playing for Rodney Garner at Tennessee should give fans even more confidence that Utley can develop into one of the better defensive linemen in the SEC).
"He's a big, nimble body with larger features and developmental upside," said 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins of Utley earlier this spring.
"He spent much of last season working in a variety of different alignments in an odd front and displayed the ability to both bend and change directions," added Ivins. "He gets off blocks and can work laterally while keeping gap integrity."
Utley, who also plays basketball (his mom, Tracy Walls, played basketball at Georgia), is extremely athletic which should allow him to be a major headache for opposing offensive linemen.
After the 2024 season, Utley is scheduled to participate in the Polynesian Bowl, which will give the Tennessee commit a chance to make a big impression on a national stage before joining his new teammates in Knoxville.
