When Derrick Henry finally became a free agent for the first time in his career, the Baltimore Ravens wasted little time in adding him to their backfield.

Henry signed a two-year deal with Baltimore worth $16 million this offseason, and he's earned nearly half of the contract without even playing a snap. It's the price you pay for acquiring "The King."

King Henry can stand to make some more dough for the Ravens just by dominating on the field.

Derrick Henry contract incentives revealed

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Henry has five separate $500,000 incentives he can hit over the course of his two-year deal. That means the incentives can be hit in 2024 AND 2025.

The kicker is he can only earn up to $2 million per year, even though hitting all five incentives each year would add up to $2.5 million.

  • 1,200 rushing yards: $500,000
  • 1,500 rushing yards: $500,000
  • 13 total touchdowns: $500,000
  • 15 total touchdowns: $500,000
  • 1,000 rushing yards + team wins Super Bowl: $500,000

How this would work is simple. If Henry rushes for at least 1,500 yards and scores 15 total touchdowns this year, he would achieve four of his $500,000 incentives and make $2 million. But if the Ravens win the Super Bowl with the help of his rushing yardage that eclipsed 1,000, he wouldn't receive the extra $500,000 as he already reached the maximum amount of earnings.

Henry could also rush for 1,300 yards and score 15 touchdowns to earn $1.5 million. That extra $500,000 can then come from winning another Super Bowl. He can do this in either year.

This structure not only adds various ways Henry can accumulate extra cash, it can also protect the Ravens from paying him an additional $500,000 if he has the best possible season.

Henry can thank his 2023 production for these incentives. He rushed for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns during his final season with the Tennessee Titans. He's gone over the 1,200 yard mark just three times in his career, which is the same number of years he's gone over 1,500 yards. He's scored at least 13 touchdowns three times as well, and crossed the 15-touchdown mark just twice.
