Earlier this offseason, CBS Sports revealed their list of the top 100 players in college football and it included two Tennessee Vols defenders.
Vols edge rusher James Pearce was ranked No. 2 and defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott was ranked No. 83.
On Thursday, CBS Sports revealed their rankings of the next best 50 players in college football (No. 101 to No. 150).
And two more Vols made their list.
CBS Sports has Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell, a Tulane transfer, at No. 114.
From CBS Sports: Long and productive receiver who transferred from Tulane and will flourish in Tennessee's tempo- and choice-based passing offense. Excellent hands and huge catch radius should inject some life into a receiving corps that struggled last year.
Vols wide receiver Squirrel White comes in at No. 125.
From CBS Sports: White is an explosive and dynamic slot who has big-play ability every time he touches the ball. Had 67 catches for 803 yards and two touchdowns last year. An improved supporting cast and a better passer at quarterback should increase those numbers in 2024.
White is easily one of the more underrated players in college football. 67 receptions for 803 yards as a sophomore while playing in an offense that was less dynamic than Tennessee's 2022 offense is quite impressive. White should be in store for an even bigger season in 2024 with Nico Iamaleava at quarterback.
As for Brazzell, he's expected to make an instant impact for the Vols after transferring from Tulane.
Brazzell's skillset is obvious — he's a big target with great hands and speed. It's his mentality, though, that gives Brazzell the chance to be a special player — he just wants to win games. And when winning is the main focus, the rest will take care of itself.
