Former Vols wide receiver Josh Palmer, who is entering his fourth season with the Los Angeles Chargers, was included on NFL.com's Gennaro Filice's list of most underappreciated NFL players.
From NFL.com: After taking over a cap-strapped roster this January, Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz decided to create financial flexibility by gutting the receiver room. In the absence of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, who will emerge as Justin Herbert’s downfield target? Last year’s first-round pick, Quentin Johnston, left a lot to be desired in Year 1. This year’s second-round pick, Ladd McConkey, looks like he’ll do most of his work from the slot. So, when the Bolts' cannon-arm quarterback wants to cut it loose, who’ll test the defense on the perimeter? It seems like a lot of people are forgetting about Palmer, possibly due to his injury-riddled 2023 campaign. The fourth-year pro already has a nice rapport with Herbert — as we saw in a handful of 100-yard outings over the past two seasons — and he possesses the most well-rounded, polished game in this receiving corps.
Palmer, a third round selection by the Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft, had the best year of his career in 2022 when he caught 72 passes for 769 yards and three touchdowns.
Last season, Palmer caught 38 passes for 581 yards and two touchdowns. The former Vol missed six games due to injury (knee sprain) in 2023, limiting his production.
Palmer, who is from Canada, spent four seasons at Tennessee (2017 to 2020). He caught 99 passes for 1,514 yards and seven touchdowns while playing for the Vols in what was a dark era for the program (the end of the Butch Jones era and the entire Jeremy Pruitt era).
