While there are plenty of questions surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, one of the few positions that has generated much discourse this offseason is tight end.

But per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, that may have just changed:

Another Tight End?

Pittsburgh currently has four tight ends on the roster via Pat Freiermth, Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward and Rodney Williams. And while this move would suggest Williams could be the odd man out, in reality, Pittsburgh is unlikely to carry more than three tight ends on the active roster.

And with Freirmeith as the sure fire starter and Washington expected to take a year two leap, that would leave Connor Heyward, (Cam Heyward's little brother) as the one without a role for the Steelers.

Which in my opinion, would be a mistake:

Heyward showed the ability to create separation and serve as a comparable receiving threat when Freiermuth was on I.R. last season. Pruitt is the opposite, as he can do a little in the receiving game, but is primarily a blocker.

And sure, I know that Pittsburgh is looking to pursue more 12 and 13 personnel (two and three tight end sets) but Muth and Washington can handle that. Heyward is sufficient enough at the point of attack and presents a receiving option that Pruitt doesn't.

So in a perfect world, Pittsburgh keeps both of them on the active roster, making the offense as multiple as possible. But that would mean skipping out on an extra lineman or WR, a choice that wont be easy.
