The San Francisco 49ers played 20 games across the 2023 regular season and postseason as they made it all the way to Super Bowl 58.
Such a gruelling campaign obviously takes a toll on players, with many on contending teams fighting through injury issues in a bid to achieve the ultimate goal.
With the page now firmly turned to 2024, 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed two of their stars have undergone core muscle surgery this offseason.
Tight end George Kittle and cornerback Charvarius Ward both had operations, with Lynch assuring that they will each be fully cleared in time for training camp.
"I've had that surgery myself when I was playing, and it's a pretty high success rate of healing," Lynch said at the league's annual meetings on Monday.
"And it feels a lot better once you get it done because it hurts constantly having that core tugging at you. So those guys both got that fixed."
That timeline is good news for the Niners. Neither Kittle nor Ward need to go through OTAs or minicamp, but the 49ers will want both back in plenty of time ahead of the 2024 regular season.
Kittle was named a first-team All-Pro last season while Ward received second-team All-Pro honors after racking up a league-high 23 pass breakups and five interceptions, with their continued success in starting roles likely to be crucial to the 49ers' hopes of going one better after their agonizing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last month.

He obviously isn’t happy.
