We should see the Las Vegas Raiders take a quarterback in this upcoming draft. Now, where they take one is a completely different story. They have eight draft picks in this upcoming draft, and the class is stacked with talent at the position, but it is certainly top-heavy.

We all know the Raiders like LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, as he and Antonio Pierce go way back. However, Daniels is starting to look like a second overall pick to the Washington Commanders, and if the Raiders want to trade up for that, it will take a lot, and probably way more than the Raiders want to give up.

But no matter what, I think we'll see the Raiders take a quarterback on one of the first two days. They went and signed Gardner Minshew this offseason to be that veteran who's also maybe a bridge guy. They don't have that right now, as they only have second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell on the roster.

If the Raiders get a quarterback on day one or two, they would be breaking a trend they have had in the draft since the 2014 season.

Raiders break trend with a QB in first two rounds

There is this chart going around on Twitter that shows the last year a team drafted a certain position in the first two rounds. For the Raiders, when you look at the quarterback position on the chart, there are only five teams that have a longer streak of not drafting a quarterback in the first two rounds.

The New Orleans Saints, who have never done it, the Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys, and Atlanta Falcons have longer streaks than the Raiders when it comes to that stat. The Raiders last drafted a QB in the first two rounds in 2014, when they took Derrek Carr.

Carr was the franchise guy for years, and he just played his first season for a different team last season. I think when the 2024 NFL Draft rolls around, we will see the Raiders take one in the first two rounds, which I think will be a guy like Michael Penix.
