If you were not aware, the Denver Broncos have a part-owner who is a superstar, both in his profession and in the world. Lewis Hamilton, who has owned the Broncos since 2022, when he joined the Walton-Penner ownership group, is likely to retire as the greatest Formula One driver of all time.

But he almost had a chance to become a movie star as well and passed up the opportunity.

Hamilton was asked to play the role of Fanboy in the recently remade movie Top Gun, which starred Tom Cruise. When Hamilton turned down the role, Actor Danny Ramirez took it instead.

“Firstly, I hadn’t even had, like, an acting lesson,” Hamilton said in a recent GQ interview. “And I don’t want to be the one that lets this movie down. And then secondly, I just really didn’t have the time to dedicate to it. I remember having to tell Joe and Tom – and it broke my heart. And then I regretted it, naturally, when they show me the movie and it’s, It could’ve been me!”

Top Gun began filming in 2018 when Lewis Hamilton won his fifth world championship. While that was happening, when it debuted, Top Gun was booming, earning nearly $1.5 billion at box offices around the globe.

The Broncos could have had a movie star as their owner. Instead, they have the most successful F1 driver of all time. In all seriousness, it's clear that Hamilton doesn't make very many bad decisions. Becoming an owner of the Broncos certainly was a good one.
