Throughout the summer leading up to the regular season, we will go through the entire 2024 Cincinnati Bengals roster. Every single day until the season opener against the New England Patriots, we will break down a player on the roster including his background, contract status, and path towards making the team.
Today, Tre Mosley may be the second wide receiver we cover in this series, but he's the first of three total rookies (two that were undrafted) Cincinnati added at the position this offseason. He has a history of producing for a big program, can he replicate that in one of the NFL's most talented receiver rooms?
Tre Mosley
- Age: 22
- Year: 1st
- Position: Wide receiver
- College: Michigan State
- Previous Teams: None
- Jersey Number: 86
Mosley signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft. He was a four-year letterwinner and five-year player for Michigan State who played in 43 career games (28 starts). He became the 48th Spartan receiver to reach 1,000 career receiving yards with 1,464 and finished his career with 25 consecutive games with a reception.
Quality character is always important for the Bengals, and Mosley was nominated for both the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Wuerffel Trophy in the summer of 2023 for his work in the community.
Contract details
Mosley signed a three-year college free agent deal with the Bengals in May that will pay him the minimum salary for the 2024 season.
His salary will cost $795,000 for the entire season if he's kept on the team for the entire regular season, but with a $3,000 signing bonus prorated throughout the deal, his cap hit as of now is $796,000 for the year.
Roster chances
Cracking the Bengals' roster as a wide receiver is always a tall task. Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Trenton Irwin, Andrei Iosivas, and Charlie Jones are all incumbent locks to make it through camp, and third-round pick Jermaine Burton can already settle in his locker as a rookie.
That's already six for a group that typically has five active on game days. Seven on the roster is not unheard of, and that's Mosley's only chance of avoiding cuts.
What may hurt Mosley in his pursuit of a roster spot is a lack of special teams experience. He only accrued 37 snaps for Michigan State special teams in his four years of in-game experience. Mosley could light up the preseason with his receiving ability, but odds are it'll be his work on special teams that will give him an actual chance to be the seventh receiver on the team.
Chances of making the roster: 5%
