The Tennessee Vols are going to play for a national championship.
It has to feel good for Vols fans to say those words — especially after all the heart break (often in bizarre ways) over the last couple of decades.
Tennessee advanced to the finals of the College World Series in Omaha on Wednesday via their 7-2 against the Florida State Seminoles.
Immediately after the win, one thing was very obvious about Tennessee — the Vols had some serious "job's not done yet" vibes happening while high-fiving each other.
If you didn't know what was on the line for the Vols on Wednesday — a trip to the finals — you would've thought it was a midweek regular season game.
Sure, the Vols were happy they won. There were plenty of smiles and the guys were clearly thrilled to get the win. But there were no players jumping up and down in celebration that the team had advanced to the championship series. No outfielders or players off the bench sprinting to the infield to celebrate.
Nope, just another day at the office, essentially.
These Vols are focused. They have a clear goal — win every game until there are no more games to win.
This is where Tennessee expected to be. And they expect to continue winning through the weekend. That doesn't mean that a championship is imminent for the Vols — baseball is still a really hard game full of elements out of your control — but it's clear that this Tennessee team isn't going to have an out-of-character letdown game during the biggest series of the year.
If it doesn't go their way, then that's just baseball.
