The allure of the Kyle Shanahan offense to NFL players is undoubted.
Shanahan acolytes have spread around the league as head coaches and offensive coordinators as his attack has proliferated into the offense de rigeur in the modern NFL.
While most players around the league will be familiar with the Shanahan attack or at least its base concepts, getting the chance to work with the man himself and play as part of his San Francisco 49ers' offense is one still widely relished.
The 49ers' latest signing on that side of the ball is evidence of that.
Earlier this month, the Niners signed tight end Logan Thomas to a one-year deal. His signing was not one ever likely to generate much fanfare, but it was an important one for San Francisco, giving the 49ers a pass-catching weapon at the backup spot behind George Kittle that they have long since lacked.
Speaking to NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan, Thomas revealed he had several offers as the offseason progressed, but he jumped at the chance to work with Shanahan and play for a 49ers team that will once again be harboring ambitions of going all the way after suffering an agonizing overtime defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58.
“They are a well oiled machine,” Thomas said when asked about the 49ers on offense.
"They know what they are doing, and don’t care if you know what they are doing. Still got to stop it. That comes from doing the same thing for years and years. Kyle is obviously a brilliant mind and I’m excited to really get to work with him.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know everybody, earning a spot on the team, and getting into the season and playing some games. The last couple of years for me have been kind of up and down. I’m excited to be part of something that could be really big.
“I haven’t really had an offensive head coach, especially not one like Kyle. I’m really excited to see how it goes."
The Niners will be hoping that Thomas acclimates well and adds an extra dimension in the receiving game to take some of the burden off Kittle's shoulders and increase their passing threat out of two-tight end sets.
Beyond the 2024 season, the 49ers may have new holes to fill on the offense, with Deebo Samuel viewed as a potential trade candidate in an offseason in which they will likely hand an extremely lucrative extension to Brock Purdy and several offensive linemen set for free agency in 2025.
Thankfully, because of the presence of Shanahan, they will have plenty of potential replacements sharing Thomas' enthusiasm to join their star-studded attack.

It’s a destination that would make a lot of sense.
