The Tennessee Vols are among the final three schools for an elite 2025 four-star recruit who plans to announce his commitment next week.
2025 four-star offensive lineman Jaelyne Matthews announced on Thursday evening that his final three schools are Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee.
According to Rivals.com, Matthews will announce his commitment on June 11.
Matthews, 6-foot-5/305 lbs from Toms River, NJ, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 41 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 16 player in the state of New Jersey.
Rutgers, the hometown program for Matthews, is another program that's reportedly still in the mix for Matthews (per 247Sports), even though they weren't included in the four-star recruit's final three.
Matthews told 247Sports that he wants to play for an offensive line coach who doesn't plan on leaving anytime soon.
"I want a coach who is going to be loyal to me and doesn't plan on leaving anytime soon and is going to be there for my three to four years of college," said Matthews.
That seems to bode well for the Vols considering the close relationship between UT head coach Josh Heupel and offensive line coach Glen Elarbee (Elarbee has coached alongside Heupel since 2016 at Missouri).
On the flip side, there are rumblings that Matthews isn't taking his official visit to Tennessee on June 14 that was previously scheduled. If that turns out to be the case, it likely means that the Vols, despite being perceived as the favorites at one time to land the New Jersey native, won't be hearing good news next week.
