Cleveland Browns will be wrapping up their offseason activities this week with mandatory minicamp starting on Tuesday.
We have gotten through free agency, the NFL Draft, rookie minicamp, and voluntary minicamp already. The NFL season is going to be here before we know it.
For the Browns, there are a few things specifically that are worth being monitored this week. I have three storylines that stand out specifically.
A look into the play calling and new offense
One offseason move that the Browns made was getting rid of Alex Van Pelt as offensive coordinator and bringing in Ken Dorsey, formerly of the Buffalo Bills. With the addition, there is a possibility that head coach Kevin Stefanski gives up playcalling, which is something that he has not done yet in his career.
With the entire offense in attendance, it will be the first look we get at this group. The talk of choice routes and spreading the wide receivers out and operating with one tight end has been a concept that has been talked about. Cleveland adding Jerry Jeudy to the team will help that.
Whether Stefanski gives up play calling for the first time in his career isn’t as big of a point to me as it is to some others. Either way, the Browns are going to have a more diverse offense with multiple assistants being added.
Will Deshaun Watson throw every day of mandatory minicamp?
The next big talking point is about the quarterback, the most important position in football. Coming back from his shoulder injury, Watson threw every other day in voluntary camp. Now, the wonder is if Watson will throw three straight days this week.
Cleveland has four quarterbacks capable of handling the throwing duties during camp with Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Tyler Huntley joining Watson.
Stefanski hinted earlier in the offseason that Watson would ramp up things the closer we get to training camp, so we will see what happens this week.
First complete look at the new linebacker room for Cleveland
In free agency, the Browns let Anthony Walker Jr. and Sione Takitaki bounce elsewhere without much of a fight to keep them. Cleveland signed Jordan Hicks and Devin Bush to add to the linebacker room that is headlined by Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
Hicks and JOK will often be on the field, but it’ll be interesting to see if Bush wins that third spot, or if another name arises. Cleveland drafted Nathaniel Watson, who will help fill in at MIKE. Tony Fields II and Mohamoud Diabate have been special trainers for the Browns that should continue to fill in as depth, or perhaps even improve to get starter snaps.

Mandatory minicamp is just about here.
