Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is emerging as a leader on offense.
All Pacheco knows is winning Super Bowls, having won one in each of his first two seasons in the NFL. He was an important contributor to both and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Pacheco is also beginning to make his mark as one of the better running backs in the league.
However, he is taking a team-first mentality when it comes to how the offense will operate in 2024. When asked about what he thinks about all the new speed at the wide receiver position, Pacheco told reporters he wants to do whatever it takes to find the endzone, even if that means quarterback Patrick Mahomes is slinging it downfield more.
Most running backs, especially young ones, would pound the table to carry the load on offense. We know that coach Andy Reid's offense is built around the passing game, especially with the two-time MVP at the helm. Pacheco has the maturity and understanding that the offense doesn't have to be built around him, but he'll still see plenty of work.
Pacheco missed three games last season, which cost him a shot at 1,000 rushing yards, missing the mark by 65 yards. If he can stay healthy, he shouldn't have much trouble getting there this year, even in a pass-first offense. Unlike last offseason, Pacheco isn't recovering from surgery and will enter training camp lighter and healthier.
