Cleveland Browns beefed up the defensive line in free agency and the NFL Draft this offseason.
In the draft, Michael Hall Jr. out of Ohio State was their first selection, and that came in the second round. Hall has been a full participant through OTAs and has impressed at times.
One person who has caught on to what Hall is doing is no other than the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
“I think he’s explosive and I think he’s very attentive. I’ve seen how he watches the game and he’s taking notes every time we’re sitting down,” Browns defensive end Myles Garrett said on Wednesday. “He always has a notebook no matter where we’re at. And he’s already asked some questions about what I’m thinking and how I’m cornering and what’s my plan. It’s a good start already.”
Garrett knows a thing or two about being successful in the NFL, as he is the best player at his position across the league. Garrett’s attention that he has given to the small parts of the game has been something that has helped him become an elite player in the NFL and a future Hall of Fame recipient.
Garrett is no longer the young guy on the team and he is now a veteran that players look up to and learn from. Back in 2017, he remembers who he was learning from.
“You know, asking, trying to get all those things down. I remember Joe (Schobert) had to walk me through those things in the preseason for me. ‘What’s my plan? How am I attacking this guy? What’s different from him to the next guy?’ And I’m happy to play that Joe role. I guess I’m the older mentor at this point.”
Hall is going to be in the mix in the middle of the Browns’ defense as an interior pass rusher who can get after the quarterback. His explosiveness is something that fits right in with what Jim Schwartz loves from his defensive lineman.
It is only June, but early returns are good on Hall are good and it is coming from exactly who you want to hear it from.
Hype is quietly building around a potential breakout player for the Browns in 2024
He is going to be a part of what the Browns do.
