One national outlet tries to claim Matthew Stafford has one of the worst contracts in the NFL

Matthew Stafford is why the Rams won games, but one national outlet believes his contract isn’t worth the price.

It is hard to believe, but Matthew Stafford may have one of the worst contracts in the NFL.

At least that is what Bleacher Report believes.

The national outlet put together a top 10 list of the worst contracts in the NFL and Stafford's contract situation came in at No. 9. Stafford's "worst contract" ranking comes in right under New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.

"The issue is the QB's contract does not afford the Los Angeles Rams much of a window to move on, if desired, through expiration in 2026," writes David Kenyon of Bleacher Report. "Stafford turned 36 this offseason, and we've seen quarterbacks be productive into their 40s. This is not a dire situation right now.

"Should his efficiency drop, though, the conversation won't be painless."

Stafford is currently in a contract dispute with the Rams, though the quarterback hasn't indicated that he would hold out of training camp to garner a new deal.

According to NFL.com, Stafford wants the team to adjust his contract to include more guaranteed money over the final two years of the deal (2025 and 2026).

Stafford has $31 million in guaranteed money for the 2024 season, but he has nothing assured after that.

It can be easy to assume that the Rams are rushing to figure out what to do with Stafford. That isn't the case. Sean McVay, the Rams head coach, admits the two sides are trying to work toward a deal. Until that deal is inked in stone, Los Angeles will attempt to be the best version of itself.

But worst contract in the NFL? That is a far cry for Stafford, who is a critical part of the Rams' return to relevancy.
