The Minnesota Vikings' 2024 draft class has finalized and they have signed the team has signed enough undrafted free agents to where the 90-man roster limit has been filled up. Including the 11 additions in free agency, there will be 35 new faces competing for jobs this offseason.
So, of course, we have to go ahead and project who wins said competitions. That's just part of the game, right?
Let's dive in.
Note: Players with single asterisk (*) are 2024 draft picks and players with double asterisks (**) are 2024 undrafted free agents.
Quarterback (3)
IN: J.J. McCarthy*, Sam Darnold, Jaren Hall
OUT: Nick Mullens
The skinny: Darnold is getting paid $10 million in 2024 and McCarthy is the QB of the future, which leaves Mullens and 2023 draft pick, Hall, out in the cold. Whether its McCarthy starting or Darnold starting, either represents a solid enough backup option to where the Vikings don't need to carry Mullens on the roster. Hall can continue his development as the emergency QB.
Running back (4)
IN: Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler, Myles Gaskin, C.J. Ham (FB/H-back)
OUT: Kene Nwangwu, DeWayne McBride
The skinny: With Jones, Chandler, and Gaskin all providing three-down ability, as well as the latter two providing special teams snaps, it doesn't make any sense to carry more than three RBs. Ham returns as the fullback/H-back, of course
Wide receiver (6)
IN: Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Trent Sherfield, Brandon Powell, Ty James**, Devron Harper**
OUT: N'Keal Harry, Daylen Baldwin, Lucky Jackson, Trishton Jackson, Malik Knowles, Thayer Thomas, Jalen Nailor, Jeshaun Jones
The skinny: The Vikings elect to keep James, who is big, fast, and athletic and Harper, who provides kick return opportunities, over the rest of the group behind Jefferson and Addison.
Tight end (4)
IN: T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, Nick Muse
OUT: Trey Knox**
The skinny: Going all chalk, here, simply due to Knox's inexperience. It's also tough projecting whether or not Hockenson is ready for Week 1, so it makes sense to stick with four tight ends, right now.
Offensive line (9)
IN: Brian O'Neill (RT), Ed Ingram (LG), Garrett Bradbury (C), Blake Brandel (RG), Christian Darrisaw (LT), Dan Feeney, Tyrese Robinson, Walter Rouse*, Michael Jurgens*, David Quessenberry
OUT: Henry Byrd, Tyrese Robinson, Jeremy Flax**, Doug Nester**, Spencer Rolland**, Matthew Cindric**
The skinny: Quessenberry doesn't hold onto his job, as Rouse becomes the Vikings' new swing tackle. Jurgens provides much-needed depth along the interior offensive line at both center and guard.

Defensive line (5)
IN: Jonathan Bullard, Jerry Tillery, Harrison Phillips, Jacquelin Roy, Levi Drake Rodriguez*
OUT: Jonah Williams, Taki Taimani, Tyler Manoa
The skinny: I absolutely love how LDR carries himself on the field. His violent hands and non-stop motor will push both sides of the trenches in camp, which ultimately lands him a roster spot. It won't surprise me if the Vikings add a guy, here, later down the road, though.
EDGE (5)
IN: Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel, Dallas Turner*, Jihad Ward, Gabriel Murphy**
OUT: Pat Jones II, Andre Carter II, Owen Porter**
The skinny: The Vikings pass rush received some major juice with the Turner selection. At worst, he'll be utilized as a special option on obvious passing downs, with the hope that he develops into a bigger and bigger role as the season goes on. Minnesota may have lost Danielle Hunter to free agency, but it did a really good job of replacing his departed production. Murphy, a projected fourth-rounder-turned-UDFA, shows why many already think he's a steal.
Linebacker (4)
IN: Blake Cashman, Ivan Pace Jr., Kamu Grugier-Hill, Brian Asamoah II
OUT: Abraham Beauplan, Andre Carter II, Bo Richter**, K.J. Cloyd**, Donovan Manuel**, Dallas Gant**
The skinny: Like the EDGE room, this room is already filled out, for the most part. Sure, there's always a chance someone emerges from the depths, but right now, it's chalk.
Cornerback (6)
IN: Byron Murphy Jr., Akayleb Evans, Josh Metellus, Shaq Griffin, Mekhi Blackmon, Khyree Jackson*
OUT: A.J. Green III, Andrew Booth Jr., Jaylin Williams, NaJee Thompson, Joejuan Williams
The skinny: It really comes down to the final corner spot, here, and that means a guy has to be able to play special teams. Evans logged zero ST snaps last year, but that's probably because he was the starting outside corner for the year. At the same time, plenty of teams have their starting corners play gunner, so it's not a concrete theory. Regardless, he played 35% of special teams snaps as a rookie in 2022, so he will do it if the staff wants him to.

Safety (4)
IN: Harrison Smith, Camryn Bynum, Lewis Cine, Theo Jackson
OUT: Jay Ward
The skinny: The safety room looks rather stable if Cine can start picking things up. At the same time, another body simply for competition's sake, would make sense.
Specialists (3)
IN: Will Reichard* (K), Ryan Wright (P), Andrew DePaola (LS)
OUT: John Parker Romo
The skinny: Unless something goes horribly wrong with Reichard, his resume and draft status make him a lock to win the kicker job.
Final Word
Overall, the Vikings have done a good job of offsetting their free agency losses and upgrading certain positions. There's obviously a lot left to play out, but it's hard to feel pessimistic about the team's trajectory.
Unsurprisingly, how the quarterback position handles itself will define how much success the team has in 2024. But even then, there should be enough adequate play to where the Vikings are in it throughout the regular season.
