The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books and the Pittsburgh Steelers have added seven new players to the roster.
Cleary drafting for their offensive identity in the draft, Pittsburgh is going to overhaul what has been a pedestrian offense over the past few seasons.
That leaves three bold takes to be made regarding how far the new look offense can go:
Steelers Lead The NFL In Rushing
The Pittsburgh Steelers finished 13th in the league in total rushing last season, and that was with two backs (Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren) who went for over 1000 yards from scrimmage.
Insert a run-heavy scheme under new OC Arthur Smith, three offensive lineman taken in the top 120, and two mobile QBs, and I think Pittsburgh takes the crown as the league's most dynamic rushing offense in 2024.
Rookie WR Roman Wilson Goes for 1k Receving Yards
Just because the team wants to run the ball doesn't mean there won't be opportunities to throw the rock.
With George Pickens receiving the majority of safety shade and double teams, that will leave big holes over the middle of the field off play action, something rookie speedster Roman Wilson can capitalize on thanks to his 4.39 speed, silky routes, and soft hands.
Justin Fields Wins NFL Comeback Player of the Year
The most daring of our three overreactions, for Fields to win CPOY, he must be starting in a plethora of games, something that Pittsburgh currently doesn't view as in the cards with their stance on Russell Wilson as the starter.
But with the team in a win-now mode, and the integration of heavy running personnel and scheme, one of the leagues best, if not the best running QB in the league will be better served in the lineup than on the bench, capitalizing on Pittsburgh's new resources.
We saw Joe Flacco win the award last year, and after being counted out and moved off of by his former team in Chicago, I think there's a chance Justin Fields approaches the season with a massive chip on his shoulder, and some hardware to show for it when it's all set and done.
