There's no question the LSU Tigers send some of the best talent in the nation to the NFL Draft year in and year out. That's especially held true at the wide receiver position.
In fact, the Tigers have not had a wideout fail to hit the expectations since 2007.
Between 2007 and the day preceding the 2024 NFL Draft, the Tigers had seen five wide receivers taken by teams in the first round of the draft. Those players include Dwayne Bowe (No. 23 overall, 2007), Craig Davis (No. 30 overall, 2007), Odell Beckham Jr. (No. 12 overall, 2014), Justin Jefferson (No. 22 overall, 2020) and Ja'Marr Chase (No. 5 overall, 2021).
The Tigers have now added two more to their list with Malik Nabers selected by the New York Giants at No. 6 overall and Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 23 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Both players are expected to make an instant impact after Nabers finished his LSU career with 189 catches for 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns. Thomas recorded 127 receptions for 1,897 yards and 24 touchdowns over three years.
The only of those to truly be deemed a "bust" out of those players was Davis, who began his career with the San Diego Chargers. Despite a promising college career in which he recorded 141 catches for 2,117 yards with 7 touchdowns, averaging 15 yards per catch, he could not stick in the NFL.
Davis saw action in 14 games with one start in his rookie season, reeling in 20 receptions for 188 yards and 1 touchdown. He only played in four games during his second season due to injury and was ultimately released by the Chargers on July 28, 2011.
The New Orleans native caught a career total 51 passes for 558 yards and 2 touchdowns between 2007 and 2010, all of which were for the Chargers.
