Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, whose contract expires on March 11, has more than likely played his last NFL snap.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the latest NFL Combine "buzz" says Cox "will probably" announce his retirement this offseason.
Here's exactly what Fowler wrote on Sunday morning:
"ESPN's Adam Schefter reported last month that Eagles center Jason Kelce told teammates he is retiring, and I've talked to multiple sources who believe defensive tackle Fletcher Cox will probably retire at some point this offseason, too. Now, retirements are tricky — plans are malleable as players emerge from the haze of the season — but there's a real possibility the Eagles will be replacing two legends at once."
The news doesn't come by much surprise considering Cox completely cleared out his locker during the Eagles' locker cleanout back in January, a strong indication that he wouldn't be back.
Cox, 33, remained one of the very few consistent bright spots for the Eagles' struggling defense in 2023 as he registered 33 total tackles, five sacks, 17 quarterback hits and three tackles for loss.
If he does officially hang up his jersey, then he will wrap up his 12-year NFL career with the Eagles a six-time Pro Bowler, four-time All-Pro, and a Super Bowl champion.
