The Kansas City Chiefs worked quietly behind the scenes during Day 1 of 2024 NFL free agency's legal tampering period.

That shouldn't come as a shock after they took who many predicted to be the No. 1 free agent off the board before the legal tampering period even began. They spent most of their day finalizing their blockbuster deal with star defensive tackle Chris Jones, celebrating his greatness in the process

Fans might be a tad disappointed with over 80 free agents signing to different teams across the NFL on Monday. The reality is that there are still plenty of impactful players left who would be plenty excited to join a perennial Super Bowl contender.

Here's a quick look at some of the best remaining players for Kansas City:

Best remaining wide receivers for the Chiefs

Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley is the prize at this position, but the Patriots, Titans, and Panthers are the only teams connected to him at this time.

The two trending names at WR for Kansas City are former Bears WR Darnell Mooney and former Commanders WR Curtis Samuel. Why those two players? Mooney had the best season of his NFL career with Chiefs OC Matt Nagy as his head coach in Chicago. Samuel is coming off a 2023 campaign where Eric Bieniemy was his offensive coordinator, and K.C. had an interest in him coming out of Ohio State. Basically, both players have some familiarity with the offensive scheme and terminology used in Kansas City.

Other names to know are former Lions WR Josh Reynolds, who the Chiefs had interest in back in 2021. There's also Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, who is a player that Brett Veach liked back in the 2019 NFL draft. Brown played with Creed Humphrey at OU and he shares an agent with Trey Smith.

Odell Beckham Jr. is also still out there and has been connected to K.C. many times before.

Best remaining offensive tackles for the Chiefs

The Chiefs could head into the 2024 NFL season with Wanya Morris and Jawaan Taylor as their bookend tackles, but the offensive tackle market hasn't exactly been explosive so far in free agency. Brett Veach has some options to choose from, including re-signing veteran LT Donovan Smith for another campaign.

If the Chiefs want to go after a future Hall of Famer for Patrick Mahomes' blindside, former Cowboys LT Tyron Smith is still on the open market.

If the Chiefs want a reclamation project Jets LT Mekhi Becton is still available with potential for a low-risk, high-reward signing.

If the Chiefs want competitive depth to push Morris at left tackle, someone like Packers OT Yosh Nijman or Texans OT Josh Jones would make the most sense.

Best of the rest for the Chiefs

If the Chiefs wanted to make a splash, they could go after the top edge rusher on the market with Danielle Hunter. They're more likely to be playing in the market for someone like Chase Young or Josh Uche on a one-year deal. They could also simply look to re-sign Mike Danna or reunite with Emmanuel Ogbah.

The safety market is bloated with talent. They could have a chance to steal a veteran difference-maker in the late waves of free agency. Maybe a one-year addition for a player who might be ring-chasing like Justin Simmons, Quandre Diggs, or Jordan Poyer. There's also the possibility of bringing back Mike Edwards, but a recent tweet suggests he's seeking a payday in free agency.

The running back market has already been picked through and seems to be a bit more pricey than expected this year. Could someone like Aaron Jones or Joe Mixon make sense for Kansas City? What about Derrick Henry? I'd guess those are all rather unlikely, but maybe a Boston Scott or D'Ernest Johnson signing could serve as a good complement to Isiah Pacheco. Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire are both still available, of course.

I would be surprised to see the team invest in the cornerback or linebacker positions, but it's certainly a possibility at the right price. They could seek to add some tertiary interior defensive linemen but don't look for a big name after the Chris Jones deal.
