The Detroit Lions have decided to move on from their one of their starters amid a serious pending legal issue.

The former Tennessee Vols cornerback was released by the Lions on Thursday.

The seven-year NFL veteran has an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.  The underlying criminal charge is listed on the sheriff's office's website as domestic battery by strangulation, which is a third-degree felony.  The offense was first described in a social media post by the sheriff's office as aggravated battery – domestic violence, but they later clarified to list the correct charge

The Lions issued a statement on the matter on Wednesday.

However, it appears the team had enough information to decide they were going to go ahead and move on from Sutton the following day.

Sutton signed a three-year contract with the Lions prior to the 2023 season.  He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2017 draft, where he spent his first six seasons.
