It appears the Miami Dolphins have a great deal of interest in several former Michigan Wolverines. And hey, why not? They just went 15-0 and won the national championship in impressive fashion over the Washington Huskies 34-13.
According to Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy, general manager Chris Grier, head coach Mike McDaniel, offensive coordinator Frank Smith, and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver are all heading to Ann Arbor for the Wolverines' Pro Day.
That's a lot of higher ups for a team to send to one pro day. In fact, the Dolphins are only one of five teams to send both their head coach and general manager to the event. The Steelers are the only other team to send their head coach, general manager, and both coordinators.
All in all, it sounds like the event is one of that will be crawling with NFL personnel from around the league.
As such, it's pretty obvious the Dolphins have significant interest in the pool of former Michigan players working out. As Miami is picking with the 21st overall and 55th overall picks in the first and second rounds, the player who seems to fit the most from a need perspective is defensive lineman Kris Jenkins, Jr.
Jenkins, Jr. is the son of former Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Kris Jenkins. He has the potential to provide something the Dolphins lost with the departure of DT Christian Wilkins: a pass rushing presence straight up the middle.
Guard Zak Zinter and WR Roman Wilson also could potentially make sense as day two picks, and the possibility of the Dolphins acquiring more mid-round picks is always there should they pull off a trade at some point.
As such, don't be surprised if the word "Michigan" is said when the Dolphins draft picks are announced from April 25 to 27 in Detroit.
