The Philadelphia Eagles recently made a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for quarterback Kenny Pickett, who will back up starter Jalen Hurts in 2024.
At the NFL league meetings on Monday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked what the Eagles are getting in the former 2022 first-round draft pick.
"Nothing but a professional effort," Tomlin said via 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks. He's a heck of a dude. They are getting a really good guy."
Over a week ago, the Eagles acquired Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 120 overall) from the Steelers. In return, they sent Pittsburgh their 2024 third-round compensatory pick (No. 98 overall) along with a pair of 2025 seventh-round picks.
The trade came after the Steelers signed Russell Wilson in NFL free agency, which was a clear sign that they were moving on from Pickett as their starter.
During his opening presser with the Eagles, Pickett subtly admitted that he was blindsided over the Steelers' decision to bring in Wilson.
"The communication is what it is, it was behind closed doors," he said. "I'm confident in the way that I handled it. I handled it the way I should've handled it. I'm excited to be here. … I'm right where I'm supposed to be."
While Pickett didn't get the ending he hoped for in Pittsburgh, he's looking forward to a fresh start with the team that he grew up cheering for.
"It's pretty unbelievable honestly," Pickett said. "I've been coming to games at the Linc since I was five years old. I have great memories of my dad taking me here. My grandfather and all my family members came out to the games and made great memories. I hope that I can help provide great memories for some of the families coming up. It's pretty surreal and a full circle moment for me."
